Romance Authors are Taking Over Austin!

What are you doing Memorial Day weekend 2015? Me? I’ll be in Austin with a slew of fabulous romance authors. We’ll be talking books, giving away books, selling and signing books, and having a ton of fun. It’s the first Austin Author Affair convention and it’s promising to be a really great time.

More information about the event can be found here. You can also join a Facebook group with regular updates here. This is one of the most reasonable priced conventions I’ve ever committed to. It also helps that it’s driving distance from Houston.

I’m giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky newsletter subscriber. If you’re not already signed up, do so here. The only stipulation is you have to pay for your own hotel room, and yes, you MUST stay at the host hotel to win these VIP passes. The giveaway is sponsored by the event organizers.

So, what are you waiting for? Mark your calendar to join me in Austin!

Readers n’Ritas 2013

I’m not exactly an avid convention or conference attendee. To be honest, leaving home for more than twenty-four hours takes months of planning and logistical skills any engineer would be proud of. So, when something close to home pops up for a weekend and the hubby is okay with letting me loose, I run as fast as I can to get there.

This event is a small, intimate reader’s convention with a cap of about 200 people. That means all weekend readers get to rub elbows with authors and spend some one-on-one time with many of them at different events.
This year one of my all-time favorite authors attended, Sherrilyn Kenyon. I’ve met her before but she is always awesome. I simply couldn’t resist going to see her.

Sherrilyn wasn’t the only draw. I’ve also gotten to know some wonderful readers the past two times I attended and was very happy to see them again. Of course, the costume contest, pajama party, and bachelor auction were definite incentives as well.

Those were just a few things keeping me busy this past weekend. I met a lot of new, friendly faces and generally had a blast. I’m hoping to attend next year as well since by then I’ll have three new releases.

After all, where else can you find Ms. Frizzle doing the cupid shuffle? Or books by three of the most marvelous authors made out of cake?

Then there were all the great costumes at the masquerade ball. I didn’t dress up this year. I wouldn’t have been able to compare to the ones who did.

Comicpalooza: Day 1

So it was day one of Comicpalooza in Houston,Tx today and look who I found roaming the hallways: Jay and Silent Bob. Okay, maybe not the real Jay and Silent Bob but damn good impersonators.

There was a lot to see and do today and many, many people in costume. It was almost overwhelming as the convention covers nearly the entire George R. Brown Convention Center, which is a damn big place.

There’s definitely something for everyone: a mustache emporium, scantily clad women, shirtless men, comics, sci-fi television stars, and Legos.

The costumes ranged from ridiculous to outrageous, from unique to amazing. I didn’t take nearly enough photos but promise to do better tomorrow.

My only disappointment of the day was not getting to meet artist Boris Valejo. However, I’ve been told he did make it into town after all. So I have high hopes for tomorrow.

Speaking of which, what are you doing tomorrow? Whatever it is, change your plans and head downtown to see me!
